Tasting note
German wine law is riddled with absurdities. Pétillants Naturels still lack a separate category; depending on the pressure on the bottle, they are labeled as semi-sparkling wine or (taxable) sparkling wine/Sekt. Alex and Dr. Marion Rinke had to declare their Chardonnay Pétillant Naturel as semi-sparkling wine, even though it has absolutely nothing in common with the bottlings to which carbon dioxide is usually artificially added. The crucial point here is not the legal classification, but rather that it is a Pétillant Naturel. This designation is at least permitted on the label. Opening the bottle is unspectacular because the wine has been disgorged. In the glass, it displays a pale yellow color with a moderate, but relatively subtle, haze. The finest perlage. The nose is highly complex. The first thing you notice is a subtle hint of smoked bacon, which immediately gives way to a vegetal aroma underscored by delicate notes of tobacco, cigar, and hazelnut. These are followed by fruity aromas of pear—partly Concorde, partly Williams—and a slightly sweet apricot, some fresh and fully ripe, some in the form of jam. On the palate, a pleasant, airy foam initially seems to fill the entire space, preparing it for what's to come. The delicate richness of the Chardonnay unfolds, and the Pétillant Naturel practically bursts with freshness and vibrancy. The lively acidity adds further invigoration. A touch of woodruff lingers in the very long finish. 17 out of 20 points.

Our
story

Eichelmann 2021
Alexander and Marion Rinke's lateral entry-level winery does not exist in the form of a representative building, but as a project with several locations. It all began with the recultivation of the Langsurer Brüderberg in the manner of a mixed rate; above all Chardonnay, but also various other varieties were planted - including Gewürztraminer and Viognier. Red wine from the Langsurer Brüderberg is also part of the repertoire. Areas on the Saar were added later.
